Complete Duas for Umrah

One of the most beautiful aspects of Umrah is the opportunity to connect with Allah through dua (supplication) at every step. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught specific duas for various moments during the pilgrimage, and reciting them adds depth and meaning to your worship. This guide compiles all the key duas you will need, presented in Arabic, transliteration, and English translation.

While there are recommended duas from the Sunnah, remember that you can always make personal dua in your own language at any time. Allah understands all languages. The prescribed duas are special because they carry the blessing of the Prophet's words, but your heartfelt personal supplications are equally beloved to Allah.

Dua When Entering Ihram (Intention)

When you reach the Miqat and are ready to enter Ihram, make your intention:

**Arabic:** لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً

**Transliteration:** Labbayk Allahumma 'Umratan

**Translation:** "Here I am, O Allah, for Umrah."

This simple declaration is your formal intention to begin the rites of Umrah. It should be spoken aloud by men and quietly by women.

The Talbiyah

The Talbiyah is recited continuously from the moment you enter Ihram until you begin Tawaf:

**Arabic:** لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

**Transliteration:** Labbayk Allahumma labbayk, labbayk la shareeka laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la shareeka lak.

**Translation:** "Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner."

The Talbiyah is the anthem of the pilgrim. Recite it with passion and conviction. Men should raise their voices; women recite it softly.

Dua for Entering Masjid al-Haram

When entering the Grand Mosque, step in with your right foot and recite:

**Arabic:** بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

**Transliteration:** Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.

**Translation:** "In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy."

Dua Upon First Seeing the Kaaba

This is one of the most emotional moments of Umrah. When you first see the Kaaba, raise your hands and make dua — this is a moment when supplications are especially accepted. There is no one specific prescribed dua, but the following is recommended:

**Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ زِدْ هَذَا الْبَيْتَ تَشْرِيفًا وَتَعْظِيمًا وَتَكْرِيمًا وَمَهَابَةً

**Transliteration:** Allahumma zid hadhal-bayta tashreefan wa ta'theeman wa takreeman wa mahabah.

**Translation:** "O Allah, increase this House in honor, esteem, dignity, and reverence."

This is also an excellent time to make any personal dua that is on your heart.

**Arabic:** بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ

**Transliteration:** Bismillah, Allahu Akbar.

**Translation:** "In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest."

Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone

This dua is specifically recommended for the stretch between the Rukn al-Yamani (Yemeni Corner) and the Black Stone:

**Arabic:** رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

**Transliteration:** Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhab an-nar.

**Translation:** "Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." (Quran 2:201)

During the rest of Tawaf, you may recite Quran, make dhikr, or supplicate with any personal dua.

Dua at Maqam Ibrahim

After completing Tawaf, pray two rakats behind Maqam Ibrahim and recite:

**Arabic:** وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى

**Transliteration:** Wattakhidhu min Maqami Ibrahima musalla.

**Translation:** "And take the standing place of Ibrahim as a place of prayer." (Quran 2:125)

In the first rakat, recite Surah Al-Kafirun (109) after Al-Fatiha. In the second rakat, recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (112) after Al-Fatiha.

Duas During Sa'i

At Mount Safa and Mount Marwa

At the top of each hill, face the Kaaba, raise your hands, and recite:

**Arabic:** إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ

**Transliteration:** Innas-Safa wal-Marwata min sha'a'irillah.

**Translation:** "Indeed, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah." (Quran 2:158)

Then say "Allahu Akbar" three times and make dua. The Prophet (PBUH) would recite:

**Arabic:** لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

**Transliteration:** La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer.

**Translation:** "There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things."

Dua When Drinking Zamzam

**Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا، وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ

**Transliteration:** Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan wasi'an, wa shifa'an min kulli da'.

**Translation:** "O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and a cure from every illness."

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for." (Ibn Majah). So make any sincere dua when drinking it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make dua in English?

Yes, absolutely. While the prescribed Prophetic duas are in Arabic, you can make personal supplication in any language during Tawaf, Sa'i, and at any other time. Allah understands all languages. If you do not speak Arabic, learn the key prescribed duas in transliteration but feel free to pour your heart out in your mother tongue.

What is the best dua during Tawaf?

There is no single "best" dua during Tawaf. The only specifically prescribed dua is "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhab an-nar" between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone. For the rest of Tawaf, you may recite any dua, read Quran, or make dhikr. Many scholars recommend making sincere personal supplications as these are moments of great closeness to Allah.
